BIG WIN FOR ALEX!!!!
Alex Wheatman ran the race of her life to win
the Northern Counties Cross Country Championships at St Helens on
Saturday.
On a muddy, undulating two lap course she took the lead on the first hill on the first lap and spread the field. She had to dig very deep towards the finish to hold off the favorite Lucy McLoughlin from Stockport by 3 seconds.
Alex was well backed up by the other Under 13 girls for most of whom it was the first race at this level.
Abbie Johnson in the Under 15 girls also had an outstanding race coming home in 10th place, having run over half the race with one shoe, losing the other in the heavy mud, this probably cost her a medal.
Abbies brother Liam had the best run of his life coming in 19th place in the Under 13 boys,
and Tori Wheatman had another good run to come home in 17th place in the Under 17 girls.
