London Marathon
Due to a continual increase in entries for the London Marathon, entry is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. However, Scarborough Athletic Club had six runners who joined the record total of 59,000 who took part.
The first finisher for the club was Nev Watson who gained entry due to qualifying on merit for the United Kingdom Athletics Marathon Championship, which is included in the event, with a fast time of 2.34.22
The club was awarded two places based on the size of the club’s United Kingdom Athletic Association membership. Anthony Gough and Carey Bilton were chosen to represent the club in recognition of their contribution to the running of the club. Anthony finished in 3.32.00 and Carey
achieved a Personal Best (PB) debut time of 5.54.16. (Photos of both attached) Andrew Hopper improved his 2025 time after finishing in 3.06.21. Aaron Padgham followed with a PB time of 3.20.20
The oldest of the club runners was 73-year-old Susan Rowlands who recorded a most notable time for her age of 5.46.48
Dusseldorf Marathon
Nicola Kidd travelled to the German City of Dusseldorf, and improved her PB by 10-minutes with 3.33.02.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Fell Race
Six Club members competed in the annual Yorkshire Three Peaks Fell Race.
The Race is a long-distance fell running race starting and finishing in the village of Horton-in Ribblesdale with a course covering 24.2 miles with around 5,200 ft of ascent. It also links three of the highest and most iconic peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, namely Pen-y-ghent - 2,227ft, Whernside –2,415ft and Ingleborough – 2,372ft
In addition to the gruelling course of steep climbs, fast descents and a mix of terrain, and close to the marathon distance, a sudden arrival of searing hot temperatures mitigated against course record times.
The first finisher for the club was Dan Bateson who was 24th Male Over-40 in 4.18.29 Rhona Marshall finished 7th Female Overall and 4th Over-40 in 4.23.15. She was followed by Nikki Carr Walls 25th Female Overall in 4.47.25
Mainly in the interest of safety, the competitors were required to achieve strict cut-off times. A total of 567 completed the course inside the allotted times but 159 were timed out
Of the three other Club Members who all achieved a successful finish result, Ian Beaver clocked 4.35.04 and was followed by Ekaitz Unanue with 5.12.13 and Phil Bowmaker 6.05.35
Esk Valley Winter Series Fell Race. Heartbeat Hobble
Fifteen Club Members competed in the final race of the Esk Fell Club’s Winter Series Races. It was held at and around the village of Goathland, where the television fictional series of Heartbeat was filmed. The course consisted of 11.9 kilometres with 240 metres of climb
The first finisher for the club and also First Overall of 95 was Paul Lawton.He was followed by Dan Watson in 6th Overall and 1st Over-45, Dale Hepples 33rd and 8th Over-50. Chris Clayton completed the Men’s team in 34th and 5th Over-60
The club women runners were led by Anna Giddings who was 4th Female Overall She was followed by Marianne Boresheim in 8th and 2nd Over-50. Liv Bourne completed the Women’s team in 10th and 1st Under-23
The Men’s team was backed up by Neil Scruton 1st Over-75, Chris Bourne 8th Over-55 and David Lester 12th Over-50

Newlands Memorial Fell Race
4 club members competed in the annual and renamed Newlands Memorial Fell Race, which was a English National Championship event and included many top-class Fell Runners from all over England. The course, which was based around Keswick in the Lake District National Park, consisted of a very testing 11.5 miles with 3,609 Feet of climb Daniel Bateson finished up in 68th Overall and 16th Over-40 in 1.49.02 He was followed by Matthew Jones 184 th , Matt Machouki 306th and Robert Bailey 355th of the 570 finishers, plus 13 who were timed out after failing to meet strict cut-off timing.

Boston UK Marathon
Evelyn Fordyce became the first club member to compete in an official Road Race Marathon this year. She achieved this accolade ahead of many others, who will be competing at the Manchester and London Marathons on 27 April At the Boston UK Marathon, Evelyn completed her first ever marathon in 4 hours 47 minutes, 175th Female of 243 and 12th Over-55.

Hemsley 10-Kilometres Mult-Terrain 10-Kilometre Race
Julia Webb competed in the Hemsley 10-Kilometres Mult-Terrain 10-Kilometre Race. The course consisted of a mixture of forest tracks, footpaths and fields. A finish time of 63.51 was achieved after finishing 247th overall of 304, 91st Overall of 131 Females, and 14th of 22 Over-60s
Leeds Running Festival at Roundhay Park. 10-Kilometres Race Martin and Mandy Pepworth competed in the 10-Kilometres Race at the Leeds Running Festival held at Roundhay Park Martin finished 90th of 542 and 6th Over-55 in 51.44. Mandy finished 307th Female and 17th Over-55 in 97.07

36 Club Members took part in the latest Wykeham Parrkrun, at which a new record total of 322 finishers was achieved. There was also an average of 8 club members taking part in the latest Sewerby Parkrun. Esk Valley Fell Club Winter Series Race at Guisborough Six club members competed in the 13th and penultimate race of the Esk Valley Fell Club Winter Series, which was held at Guisborough over an above average course of 20-kilometres 850 metres of climb The Club’s Women’s Team that finished 3rd Overall was led by Rhona Marshall and 1st Female Overall of 36. She was followed by Sue Haslam in 14th and 1st Over-70. Marianne Borsheim completed the team in 16th and 1st Over-50. Julie Clayton backed up in 33rd and 4th Over-55 Robert Preston finished 6th Overall of 141. Matthew Jones was 9th and 1st Over-45 Paul Lawton assisted the race organisation by acting as a Race Sweeper
Club Summer Handicap. Race 1 at Scarborough Rugby Club 60 club members competed in the first race of the Summer Handicap series, which consisted of a 3.3 mile multi-terrain race based at Scarborough Rugby Club and included a section of the disused Railway Line. The first finisher overall on Handicap was Nicki Edmond, who was followed in 2nd by Raffi Aghanian and Fay Debenham 3rd The Fastest Men’s Result was achieved by Will Anderson.
